Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elias and Flora Call Disney. The family soon moved to Marceline, Missouri, where Elias acquired a farm. The family moved to Kansas City in 1910, where Elias purchased a newspaper distribution paper. Walt delivered newspapers and attended Benton School until the family returned to Chicago. During WWI, Walt served briefly in France as an ambulance driver. After the war, he worked for the Kansas City Film Ad Company. He then started Laugh-O-gram Films, which produced animated cartoons. Upon failure of the business, Walt moved to California and started the Disney company with his brother Roy Oliver Disney in 1923. The company built Disneyland in 1955. At the time of his death on 15 December 1966, Walt was planning the Mineral King year-round resort and the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT). Walt Disney had married Lillian Bounds in 1925, and they had two daughters, Diane and Sharon.
